Summary: | This paper aims at applying the theory of regulatory arbitrage in the analysis of the development and consolidation of the Shadobanking. In order to do this, the paper offers a broad definition of the Shadowbanking concept, it shows some relevant measures of the Shadowbanking phenomenon globally and it analyses the contours of this sector in both the colombian and the nort american scenarios, in order to dermine wether the regulatory arbitrage caused by some regulatory burdensimposed on some agents of the financial sector has in fact helped in the development of entities with functions similar to those of the traditional banking entities, but much less regulated and with higher levels of systemic risk involved. |
