Summary: | Health Literacy (HL) has an impact on behaviors related to self-care and knowledge on non-communicable chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Inadequately low HL levels, as well as higher T2DM prevaleneces have been reported in unfavored populations with lower social and economical status, creating a negative synergy that will perpetuate health inequities amongst populations. The aim of this study is to identify, provide a critical quality appraisal and share the results of previous research in the field of HL in adults with T2DM in Latin American or Hispanic population, describing the identified tools used to measure HL, factors related to low HL and potential health and disease outcomes. |
