Description
Summary:The textural analysis of pyroclasts provides insights of the eruption that produced these deposits (e.g., physical conditions of the ascending melt). Textural studies (e.g., relative abundance of juvenile, accessories and accidental components, and measuring parameters of broken crystals) were made from the deposits of the last eruption of Azufral Volcano (Colombia), named Unidad Laguna Verde (ULV) (cf., Calvache et al., 2003; in Castilla, 2016). The results of these studies at the ULV suggest: (1) the presence of two different magmas, each one with different degree of vesiculation, which interacted and ascended to the surface; (2) A vulcanian eruptive style was inferred by the decompression rate calculated (Miwa & Geshi, 2012); (3) this eruption was triggered by the arrival of a volatile-rich magma which fractured and expulsed a volcanic plug.
