This article leverages variation in the strategies of two factions of the Colombian trans movement to show that, despite the presence of favorable legal opportunities, the determining factor for movements- legal success is the process through which they build support structures for legal mobilization, which in turn affects the kind of resources to which they have access. Particularly, support structures built through brokerage connect movements to a network of lawyers, which increases their chances for successful legal mobilization. This article draws on data gathered through 28 interviews to key actors, one year of participant observation, and documentary review.

La literatura existente apunta a las oportunidades legales y a las estructuras de soporte a la movilización legal como las variables explicativas claves, pero no especifica cómo interactúan entre sí. Adicionalmente, no ha examinado adecuadamente el proceso o la relevancia de la construcción de las estructuras de soporte. Este artículo utiliza la variación en las estrategias de dos facciones del movimiento trans colombiano para mostrar que, a pesar de la presencia de oportunidades legales favorables, el factor decisivo para el éxito de la movilización legal es el proceso mediante el cual se construyen las estructuras de soporte a la movilización legal, que a su vez afecta el tipo de recursos a los que pueden acceder.
