Por esta razón, los roles de género tradicionales están sometidos a transformaciones donde pierden su carácter de referente único. A pesar de esto, las relaciones románticas continúan siendo moldeadas por roles tradicionales de género, creando diferentes experiencias y expectativas para hombres y mujeres frente al rol que esperan realizar dentro de una relación. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo comprender la forma en que los adultos emergentes asumen roles de género dentro de sus relaciones románticas en el mantenimiento del clima emocional, y cómo la interacción en la pareja mantiene o cuestiona estos roles. Para esto, se realizó una serie de entrevistas semiestructuradas a 12 adultos emergentes, 6 hombres y 6 mujeres entre 18 y 25 años, que se encontraban en una relación de noviazgo, y se empleó un análisis temático para identificar temas relevantes. Los resultados de este estudio muestran que las prácticas de roles de género en el mantenimiento del clima emocional de relaciones de noviazgo se encuentran entre discursos tradicionales y discursos nuevos. Por lo tanto, se mantienen ciertos roles tradicionales, mientras que se busca construir nuevos roles más igualitarios. La crianza y los modelos en la relación de padres, las experiencias en las relaciones y en relaciones previas, las presiones autoimpuestas para cumplir con expectativas de género, y la búsqueda de tener relaciones igualitarias fueron algunas razones encontradas para mantener o cuestionar estos roles.
