Cuckoo Search yields better overall results under uniform irradiance conditions, under partial shading conditions and under different ambiance temperatures than the Firefly Algorithm. The importance of well distributed initial set of solutions for these algorithms is addressed and validated.La simulación y discusión de dos técnicas metaheurísticas de maximum power point tracking (MPPT) para un sistema fotovoltaico (PV) bajo diferentes condiciones de irradiancia es mostrado, concretamente las técnicas son Firefly Algorithm y Cuckoo Search Algorithm. El sistema PV, el problema de MPPT global y las técnicas son abordados. La evaluación del desempeño es realizado principalmente con base en el error integral absoluto y la eficiencia. La técnica Cuckoo Search muestra mejores resultados en general que la túcnica Firefly Algorithm bajo condiciones de irradiancia uniforme, sombreado parcial y distintas temperaturas.
