Description
Summary:Iphigenia, the daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, is characterized from her role as a sacrificial virgin among the female characters in Greek tragedy. Iphigenia is presented as Artemis' priestess in Euripides' tragedy Iphigenia among the taurians, so her character is developed beyond her traditional characterization. In the present work, I analyze Iphigenia's character from her actions and motivations: on the one hand as a nostalgic woman who wants to return to her fatherland; but on the other hand, as a priestess who is looking for revenge from whom sacrificed her in Aulis. It is possible to analyze Iphigenia and this play under Aristoteles premises in Poetics, with this analysis I confront the critic's melodramatic characterization of Euripides' tragedy.
