Summary:The perception of security is a factor that influences the decisions of individuals, this generates changes in consumption patterns and, therefore, impacts the economic development of a society. This is most noticeable where there is the presence of large agglomerations of people, as in cities. In the literature related to the subject, there is a consensus in which it is stated that fear modifies human behavior. Even so, although a high perception of insecurity implies fear, few analyzes have been made of the influence of the perception of security or insecurity on people's consumption or investment decisions, in the context of Colombian cites. By virtue of the above, it becomes necessary to know how the perception of citizen security affects the choices of individuals and, consequently, the economic development of society? To answer the question, a study was conducted in the city of Bogotá, where the perception of insecurity in 2019 was 63% (Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, 2019), supported by a model that reflects that the elections framed in hyperbolic metapreferences are influenced by the perception of security. In addition, an experiment was proposed in which it was observed that, on average, 64% of participants changed their consumption decision when interpreting safety conditions.
