Description
Summary:In this document, a detailed analysis of the most common methodologies for the estimation of drought indexes and the trial of procedures for the determination of this phenomenon event's gravity are presented. The methodology was tested in two (2) relative important basins in Colombia: the Sumapaz's basin and the Lebrija's basin. The detailed analysis included: 1. The contrast between drought indexes series, obtained with different methods, trying to evaluate the consistency in event identification. 2. The evaluation of temporal tendencies of drought events. 3. The correlation between drought indexes series and sets of macro-climatic phenomenon indexes. The useful procedures in determination of the gravity of events included the construction of regional Severity-Duration-Frequency Curves (SDF curves), the identification and characterization of regional events (based on series of indexes calculated for individual stations) and the localization of those events in the constructed SDF curves. Additionally, the regional drought indexes series obtained were compared...
