Description
Summary:Particulate matter is a pollutant related to decreased visibility, effects on vegetation and ecosystems, damage to materials, effects on climate change (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2010) and adverse effects on human health, such as damage to the circulatory and respiratory system (World Health Organization, 2006). Because of the importance of particulate matter as a pollutant, this project seeks to see the feasibility of using images to estimate pollution levels through an estimation of visibility. To do that, a base of images was created with around 210 photos captured from two terraces of the University of the Andes. An adjustment was made to each image using image registration methods to align the images with the help of MATLAB and Python software. With these same programs, we work during the entire process of calculating the values of the coefficient of extinction of light and visibility under different contrast situations. The data obtained...
