In 2015 International Agency for Research on Cancer classified this substance as probably carcinogentc to humans leading to the suspension ofthe spread of aerial glyphosate the same year in countries like Colombia, where glyphosate is extensively used in illiclt crop eradication. Notwithstanding, according to a U.S. Geological Survey study: traces of glyphosate and its main degradation product remain in soil year añer year. This underscores the urgency and importance of assessing new technologies to degrade remaining glyphosate in soils and water corps without leaving persistent sub-products...El amplio uso de Glifosato ha permeado no solo la agricultura a pequeña y gran escala, sino también la lucha contra el tráfico de drogas y cultivos ilícitos. La salud, seguridad alimentaria y los derechos de campesinos y comunidades indígenas han sido vulnerados en países donde hay uso intensivo de herbicidas a base de glifosato. En 2015 la Agencia Internacional para la Investigación en Cáncer clasificó esta sustancia como probablemente carcinogénica causando la suspensión del riego aéreo con glifosato en este mismo año en países como Colombia, donde este herbicida es usado de manera intensiva para la erradicación de cultivos ilícitos. Sin embargo, de acuerdo con estudios realizados por la Agencia Geológica de Estados Unidos, trazas de Glifosato y su principal producto de degradación permanecen en el suelo año tras año.
