However, there is a high risk in the functional future of the aqueduct, since the interests and the cultural, social and economic characteristics of the population were not considered. This increases the likelihood that the system may face major problems that affect and obstruct service delivery." -- Tomado del Formato de Documento de Grado."Dada la ubicación geográfica estratégica y las condiciones ambientales de trópico húmedo, hace que Quibdó, presente altos niveles de precipitación anual, por lo que tradicionalmente la principal fuente de uso del agua, sean las aguas lluvias. En estas condiciones, y a pesar de estar rodeada de grandes ríos y afluentes (Atrato, Cabí, Cascorba, La Yesca, entre otros), sólo el 33% de la población tiene acceso al acueducto... Actualmente, se realizan obras de ampliación y optimización de las redes de acueducto, con el fin de aumentar la cobertura. Sin embargo, se presenta un alto riesgo en el funcionamiento futuro del acueducto, puesto que no se contemplaron los intereses y las características culturales, sociales y económicas de la población.
