description |
Colombia is a country that is under a constant hazard due to its geological and topographic characteristics. Antioquia is one of the departments with a higher probability of a landslide to occur. Therefore, in this project the Salgar municipality was chosen to be the area of focus. It was chosen because of its climate and its topographic characteristics. The project generates a landslide hazard map that show three main areas, with green representing low hazard, yellow representing medium hazard and red representing high hazard. This was done with Landsat 8 images and metadata obtained from other entities. The Geographic information systems (GIS) QGIS and ArcMap were used to analyze the data and to generate the map. For the map generation 4 variables were used, slopes, NDVI, rainfall and type of rock. Another map was built by adding a fifth variable, "vulnerable elements", to make an approximation of higher-risk areas. Then these variables were combined according to an algebraic expression that weights each variable according to its relative contribution to the hazard level. The results showed that the municipality hazard level increases from North West to South East, which had a strong correlation with the rainfall variable |
