Introduction: Oral care is a fundamental part of overall health, especially for individuals with disabilities, who often rely on their caregivers to maintain proper oral hygiene. However, the practices and knowledge of family caregivers regarding oral care can vary significantly, thus affecting the quality of life and oral health of the individuals in their care. Objective: To synthesize the available scientific literature related to the oral care practices of family caregivers of individuals with disabilities. Methodology: A scoping review of the literature was conducted. Systematic and advanced searches were performed in Scopus, Web of Science, Virtual Health Library, Dimensions, Google Scholar, Epistemonikos, PubMed, Scielo, and Embase. Four researchers independently selected articles, ensuring they met the selection criteria: scientific articles published from 2013 onwards, study population including individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, and oral care practices of families and family caregivers of individuals with disabilities. A data extraction matrix was constructed. Results: After a rigorous selection process of 295 articles, 50 were included for final review. It was found that caregivers play a crucial role in performing oral hygiene for individuals with disabilities, adapting it according to their level of disability and systemic involvement. The most common disabilities among the studied population included visual impairment, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and autism. Conclusions: There is a notable lack of education on proper brushing techniques for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, which can exacerbate oral health problems such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and cavities. Limited access to dental services is also a significant barrier. It is suggested that caregivers and family members receive more extensive and specialized training tailored to individual needs to address this issue effectively.application/pdfAtribución-NoComercial-CompartirIgual 4.0 InternacionalAcceso abiertohttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDiscapacidadCuidado bucalFamiliasCuidadoresDisabilityOral careFamiliesCaregiversWU 100Prácticas de cuidado bucal de cuidadores/as familiares y personas con discapacidades: Revisión de alcanceOral Care Practices of Family Caregivers and Persons with Disabilities: A Scoping ReviewOdontologíaUniversidad El BosqueFacultad de OdontologíaTesis/Trabajo de grado - Monografía - Pregradohttps://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1finfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesishttps://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a851.
