En el 2001, el análisis de la cohorte del estudio multicéntrico de SIDA demostró claramente el incremento de la mortalidad hepática encontrada en los pacientes coinfectados por VIH/VHB. La infección por el HIV afecta de manera negativa el curso de la hepatitis B. Es mayor el riesgo de desarrollar hepatitis crónica después de un cuadro de hepatitis B aguda, son menores las probabilidades de eliminar el HBeAg, los niveles de HBV-DNA suelen ser más elevados, hay una progresión más rápida del daño hepático y la mortalidad por enfermedad hepática es mayor que en los monoinfectados por HBV. |
