Grupo de Investigación INVBOCA-Investigación en Salud Bucal Pública y ComunitariaOdontólogoPregradoBackground: Emotional intelligence and academic performance in their interaction generate a bidirectional relationship, influencing each other from the particularities that characterize them; despite this fact, it is not usually a topic of bundant research interest (Extremera & Fernández-Berrocal, 2001). Emotional intelligence mediated by emotional and academic factors in the dental student process can lead to situations of stress, anxiety, and pathological depression that are determinants of the quality of life of the dental student. Aim: To clearly define the approaches to emotional intelligence and its relationship with the academic training of dental students. Methods: Four electronic searches of the Pubmed and Embase databases were carried out, one for each guiding question in the review; for each one, different search strategies were established with their respective keywords, and in addition, manual searches were carried out based on review articles. The search was not restricted by language, place, or date of publication. Results: An information search strategy was carried out for four guiding questions on approaches to emotional intelligence and its relationship with the academic performance of dental students. For emotional intelligence and knowledge, three articles were selected in Pubmed and seven in Embase. For academic performance and emotional intelligence, nine articles were selected in Pubmed and five in Embase. Regarding the concept of emotional intelligence, six articles were found in Pubmed and five in Embase. Finally, regarding knowledge, emotional intelligence, academic performance, and dental students seven articles were found in Embase and twelve in Pubmed. Conclusions: From this review, it was possible to analyze the approaches to emotional intelligence in relation to academic performance in dental students, contemplating through the literature that emotional intelligence is a determining factor in the state of academic performance since dental students are often exposed to factors such as stress and anxiety, which can become determinants in academic performance.application/pdfAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/Acceso abiertohttps://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Inteligencia emocionalFormación académicaRendimiento académicoEstudiantes de odontologíaEmotional intelligenceAcademic trainingAcademic performanceDental studentsWU 100Abordajes de la inteligencia emocional y su relación con rendimiento académico de estudiantes de odontologíaApproaches to emotional intelligence and its relationship with academic performance of dental studentsOdontologíaUniversidad El BosqueFacultad de OdontologíaTesis/Trabajo de grado - Monografía - Pregradohttps://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1fhttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_7a1finfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesishttps://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a851.
