La calidad de vida es fundamental en las prótesis maxilofaciales porque estas prótesis no sólo abordan aspectos funcionales como la masticación y la fonación, sino que también tienen un impacto significativo en la estética facial y, por tanto, en la autoimagen y la confianza del paciente. Al mejorar la apariencia y la función, las prótesis maxilofaciales contribuyen a la integración social y psicológica del individuo, permitiéndole llevar una vida más plena y participar activamente en las actividades diarias. Además, una mejor calidad de vida se asocia con aspectos emocionales positivos y una adaptación más efectiva a los cambios provocados por la pérdida de tejido facial. OBJETIVO: Describir el impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis maxilofaciales. MÉTODOS: Se realiza una selección de artículos por temática. Se reúnen los artículos y estudios relacionados a calidad de vida de pacientes con prótesis maxilofacial, limitando la revisión sólo a los documentos que respondan a las preguntas orientadoras. Para la recolección se usaron bases de datos como PubMed, SciElo, y Google Scholar, para que los resultados sean más limitados se usan palabras clave como prótesis maxilofacial, calidad de vida y cáncer oral. RESULTADOS: Los estudios han demostrado que las prótesis maxilofaciales que mejoran tanto la función como la estética tienden a tener un mayor impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Además, las prótesis faciales que reconstruyen áreas de la cara afectadas por traumatismos, cáncer u otras afecciones pueden tener un impacto significativo en la calidad de vida al restaurar la apariencia facial y la autoimagen del paciente. Los indicadores de calidad de vida en la rehabilitación de prótesis maxilofaciales pueden incluir medidas de la función oral, como la capacidad de masticar y hablar, así como evaluaciones de la apariencia facial y la satisfacción con la prótesis. CONCLUSIONES: Aunque la literatura revisada proporciona una comprensión significativa de la calidad de vida en pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis maxilofaciales, todavía hay áreas que requieren mayor investigación. Por ejemplo, la evaluación a largo plazo de la calidad de vida, el desarrollo de prótesis más avanzadas y cómodas y la identificación de estrategias efectivas para mejorar la adaptación psicológica de los pacientes son temas que merecen atención continua en futuras investigaciones.

La información fue acumulada a través de estudios, revisiones y artículos científicos encontrados mediante métodos de búsqueda específicos. La calidad de vida es fundamental en las prótesis maxilofaciales porque estas prótesis no sólo abordan aspectos funcionales como la masticación y la fonación, sino que también tienen un impacto significativo en la estética facial y, por tanto, en la autoimagen y la confianza del paciente. Al mejorar la apariencia y la función, las prótesis maxilofaciales contribuyen a la integración social y psicológica del individuo, permitiéndole llevar una vida más plena y participar activamente en las actividades diarias. Además, una mejor calidad de vida se asocia con aspectos emocionales positivos y una adaptación más efectiva a los cambios provocados por la pérdida de tejido facial. OBJETIVO: Describir el impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis maxilofaciales. MÉTODOS: Se realiza una selección de artículos por temática. Se reúnen los artículos y estudios relacionados a calidad de vida de pacientes con prótesis maxilofacial, limitando la revisión sólo a los documentos que respondan a las preguntas orientadoras. Para la recolección se usaron bases de datos como PubMed, SciElo, y Google Scholar, para que los resultados sean más limitados se usan palabras clave como prótesis maxilofacial, calidad de vida y cáncer oral. RESULTADOS: Los estudios han demostrado que las prótesis maxilofaciales que mejoran tanto la función como la estética tienden a tener un mayor impacto en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Además, las prótesis faciales que reconstruyen áreas de la cara afectadas por traumatismos, cáncer u otras afecciones pueden tener un impacto significativo en la calidad de vida al restaurar la apariencia facial y la autoimagen del paciente. Los indicadores de calidad de vida en la rehabilitación de prótesis maxilofaciales pueden incluir medidas de la función oral, como la capacidad de masticar y hablar, así como evaluaciones de la apariencia facial y la satisfacción con la prótesis. CONCLUSIONES: Aunque la literatura revisada proporciona una comprensión significativa de la calidad de vida en pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis maxilofaciales, todavía hay áreas que requieren mayor investigación. By improving appearance and function, maxillofacial prosthetics contribute to the social and psychological integration of the individual, allowing him/her to lead a fuller life and actively participate in daily activities. In addition, a better quality of life is associated with positive emotional aspects and a more effective adaptation to the changes caused by the loss of facial tissue. AIM: To describe the impact on quality of life in patients rehabilitated with maxillofacial prosthetics. METHODS: A selection of articles by subject is made. Papers and studies related to the quality of life of patients with maxillofacial prosthetics were collected, limiting the review only to documents that respond to the guiding questions. Databases such as PubMed, SciElo, and Google Scholar were used for the data gathering. To limit the results even more, keywords such as maxilofacial prosthetics, quality of life, and oral cancer are used. RESULTS: Studies have shown that maxillofacial prosthetics that improve both function and esthetics tend to have a greater impact on a patient's quality of life. In addition, facial prosthetics that reconstruct areas of the face affected by trauma, cancer, or other conditions can have a significant impact on quality of life by restoring the patient's facial appearance and self-image. Quality of life indicators in maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation may include measures of oral function, such as the ability to masticate and speak, as well as assessments of facial appearance and satisfaction with the prosthetic. CONCLUSIONS: Although the literature reviewed provides significant insight into the quality of life in patients rehabilitated with maxillofacial prosthetics, there are still areas that require further investigation.
