A pesar de los avances tecnológicos en las pruebas de diagnóstico rápido (PDR) de enfermedades infecciosas y su uso para dirigir el tratamiento por paciente, la utilización de las PDR en los programas de administración de antimicrobianos (PEA) varía entre los países de ingresos bajos y medios y los de ingresos altos. Un grupo de siete expertos en enfermedades infecciosas de Colombia, Japón, Nigeria, Tailandia, el Reino Unido y los Estados Unidos, junto con datos procedentes de una revisión bibliográfica, aportaron información clave para evaluar el valor de las PDR en los PEA. A partir de ahí, se propone un marco de valor que pretende definir los beneficios del uso de las PDR en los AEP, aparte de los beneficios por paciente. Los puntos de vista de los expertos ponen de relieve que, para aprovechar el valor de las PDR en los AEP, es fundamental una aplicación eficaz; se proponen consejos prácticos para elegir una PDR. Los expertos abogan por la inclusión de las PDR en la lista modelo de diagnósticos in vitro esenciales de la Organización Mundial de la Salud y en el desarrollo iterativo de planes de acción nacionales. |

Key insights from a panel of seven infectious disease experts from Colombia, Japan, Nigeria, Thailand, the UK, and the USA, combined with evidence from a literature review, were used to assess the value of RDTs in ASPs. From this, a value framework is proposed which aims to define the benefits of RDT use in ASPs, separate from per-patient benefits. Expert insights highlight that, to realise the value of RDTs within ASPs, effective implementation is key; actionable advice for choosing an RDT is proposed.
