La incidencia de mordeduras por animales en nuestro medio es difícil de cuantificar debido al subregistro de casos. Sin embargo, en la práctica clínica se ha notado que existe falla en la adherencia al tratamiento antibiótico. A pesar de que el paciente no sigue las indicaciones médicas, no todos los eventos desenlazan en infección. La literatura sugiere que la profilaxis antibiótica tiene poco efecto, siempre y cuando la mordedura lleve un adecuado manejo inicial, sin embargo, no es concluyente. El objetivo de este estudio es describir la relación existente entre la adherencia al tratamiento antibiótico y la presencia de infección posterior a una mordedura por animal. Es un estudio de Cohortes prospectivo, sin intervención, cuya población a estudiar esta dada por los pacientes quienes sufrieron mordeduras por animal y consultan a la Fundación Cardioinfantil. Previo consentimiento, quienes cumplan los criterios de inclusión y exclusión independiente de edad y género, harán parte del estudio. Se realizará seguimiento a los pacientes para descartar signos de infección y evaluar la adherencia al tratamiento en 3 controles durante un mes, aplicando un cuestionario con las variables a estudiar. El estudio tiene una duración de 3 años. Se espera que los pacientes quienes recibieron un óptimo manejo médico, no presenten signos de infección, a pesar que no tengan una adecuada adherencia al tratamiento antibiótico. |

However, the effectiveness of the latter in our population is not conclusive. This research aims to identify the relationship between adherence to antibiotic treatment and infection rate after one bite per animal. Materials and Methods: Prospective cohort study, with statistical significance of 95%, and analysis by subgroups of interest in a probabilistic sample. Results: 227 patients included, where 56.4% were men, with an average age of 22 years. 90,3% of bites were from canines, being more frequent in the hand. The most commonly used antibiotics were beta-lactams with beta-lactamase inhibitors (53%). 74% of patients had adherence to antibiotic treatment with an adherence of 63%. Symptoms of infection occurred in 44%, with complications of infection and dehiscence of sutures in only 3%. Conclusions: Although the percentage of adherence to treatment is acceptable, the infection corresponds to a high percentage.
