Description
Summary:Objective: To evaluate the quality and utility of clinical research studies related with interventions in oral health, made as requisite by students in the Faculty of Dentistry in the National University of Colombia during 1996 - 2000. Design of the study: Observational, analytic, cross-sectional. Source of data: 26 final reports of investigation available in the local library of the Faculty of Dentistry. Main outcome measure: Quality of the study considering its contribution to clinical decision making in clinical practice. Utility of the investigation considering its quality and availability of the results for clinical practitioners. Results: Low quality has been found in 79% of the studies and is associated with type of study (overviews) and pre-graduate affiliation of the authors. The system of registry in the local library does not allow to evaluate utilization rates of the documents. Conclusions: Utility of studies in the pre graduate level is doubtful. Investigation should be strengthen with policies addressed to specific training in research aspects and availability of publication resources.
