Esta investigación tiene por objetivo analizar el desarrollo del campo científico que estudia el tratamiento conservador de la espondilolistesis, identificando la estructura del área y estableciendo las corrientes de investigación. Para cumplir el propósito se aplicó un análisis bibliométrico a 441 documentos indexados en la base de datos Scopus que se relacionan directamente con el objeto de estudio. Los hallazgos permiten concluir que, en el pasado, las investigaciones se enfocaban en evidenciar los beneficios de la cirugía respecto al tratamiento conservador de la espondilolistesis, no obstante, desde la década de 2010, las investigaciones que demuestran los beneficios del tratamiento no quirúrgico de la espondilolistesis han crecido de manera significativa, además, la producción científica se ha concentrado en países angloparlantes como Estados Unidos, Canadá, Reino Unido y Australia, presentándose una escasa producción en Latinoamérica. En líneas generales los documentos más recientes del área sostienen que la manipulación lumbar mediante osteopatía, quiropráctica y fisioterapia han demostrado resultados significativos en la reducción del dolor y la discapacidad de los pacientes en los primeros meses de tratamiento (2 a 6 meses), por lo tanto, debe considerarse como la primera opción dejando a la cirugía como alternativa para aquellos casos donde los pacientes no demuestran una mejoría significativa de sus síntomas. Como temas que vienen ganando popularidad en la investigación, se encuentran el manejo de escalas para la medición del dolor y la discapacidad, así como el uso de inyecciones de corticoesteroides para la reducción de la inflamación. This research aims to analyze the development of the scientific field that analyzes the conservative treatment of spondylolisthesis, identifying the structure of the area and establishing the research currents. To fulfill the purpose, a bibliometric analysis is applied to 441 documents indexed in the Scopus database that are directly related to the object of study. The findings allow us to conclude that, in the past, research focused on demonstrating the benefits of surgery with respect to conservative treatment of spondylolisthesis; however, since the 2010s, research demonstrating the benefits of non-surgical treatment of spondylolisthesis has grown significantly, and scientific production has been concentrated in English-speaking countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, with little production in Latin America. In general terms, the most recent documents in the area maintain that lumbar manipulation by means of osteopathy, chiropractic and physiotherapy have shown significant results in the reduction of pain and disability of patients in the first months of treatment (2 to 6 months), therefore, it should be considered as the first option, leaving surgery as an option for those cases where patients do not show a significant improvement of their symptoms. The use of scales for measuring pain and disability, as well as the use of corticosteroid injections for the reduction of inflammation, are topics that are gaining popularity in research.MaestríaMagíster en Medicina AlternativaPara la construcción de estados del arte pueden emplearse distintas técnicas o enfoques como la revisión cualitativa de textos, la revisión sistemática de literatura, los metaanálisis, y la bibliometría (72). Esta última técnica destaca sobre otros métodos de revisión ya que utiliza herramientas estadísticas y matemáticas para mapear la estructura de un campo del conocimiento identificando indicadores de literatura como la evolución del campo a través del tiempo, las revistas, autores, y países de mayor producción. Incluso, posibilita la obtención de corrientes de investigación mediante el análisis de la similitud en los textos académicos ((11),(73). La bibliometría es una técnica que se ha aplicado con éxito en diversos campos del conocimiento como las ciencias sociales (74), política (75) y salud (21). Autores como Chu et al.,(2022) (76), realizaron un análisis bibliométrico de 74 publicaciones relacionadas con la investigación en endoscopia biportal unilateral y cirugía endoscópica de la columna publicados en Web of Science. Como resultado lograron establecer que la espondilolistesis y la descomprensión endoscópica han sido los focos de investigación en los últimos años, y como hallazgos principales, encontraron que Corea del Sur, Emiratos Árabes Unidos y Egipto lideran la producción respecto a este tópico, también y se identificó que la revista World Neurosurgery es la principal fuente de difusión de este tipo de publicaciones. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, para la construcción del estado del arte de la investigación que aborda el manejo no quirúrgico de la espondilolistesis desde la osteopatía y la quiropraxia se propone emplear un análisis bibliométrico. De manera concreta, se usará el proceso metodológico planteado por Martens et al., (2016) (74).
