description Migrant musicians from San Jacinto and Cartagena (department of Bolívar) settled in Bogotá (Colombia) have developed some particular adaptations to the urban dynamics, demanding a collective identity and generating appropriation strategies towards the new urban context. These processes define what is considered as the reconstruction of territory, which is expressed in the relations that individuals create between their original territories and their final destinations. The purpose of this research is to identify such processes, through the characterization and study of musical practices of the above mentioned migrating population. A qualitative approach was used for this investigation, focused mainly on the description of origin and conformation of the gaita groups —specifically, the Gaitas y Tambores group—, their history and the current context where this music is developing. The intention of this paper is to present a state of the art that allows a broader and better approach to the Colombian musical geography.
