Su prevalencia, los factores de riesgo y los métodos utilizados varían de acuerdo a la cultura en diferentes países. Actualmente no hay certeza del comportamiento y la tendencia suicida secundaria a la carga en la salud mental desencadenada por las medidas de distanciamiento, confinamiento y restricciones implementadas durante la pandemia por Covid - 19. Si bien se evidenció un aumento de la violencia en diferentes poblaciones, también hubo repercusiones en la salud mental que comprenden desde la ideación suicida, pasando por el interno, hasta el suicidio consumado. Objetivos: Comparar la prevalencia de las muertes suicidas y los factores asociados durante el primer año de la Pandemia Covid-19 en comparación con el año previo, en Bogotá. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional de tipo descriptivo, de temporalidad retrospectiva, donde se analizaron los datos aportados por el Centro Referencia Nacional sobre Violencia (CRNV) del Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses, de las necropsias concluidas como suicidios realizadas en Bogotá en los periodos comprendidos del 11 de marzo de 2019 al 10 de marzo de 2020 (año pre-pandemia) y del 11 de marzo de 2020 al 10 de marzo de 2021 (primer año de la pandemia). Resultados: Durante el año prepandemia se presentaron 390 casos de suicidios, en comparación con 333 casos suicidas durante el primer año de pandemia. En ambos periodos, los decesos se presentaron principalmente en hombres adultos de 29 a 59 años, solteros, quienes tenían un nivel de escolaridad de secundaria básica y/o media. Así mismo, se identificaron que las causas de muerte más frecuentes en ambos periodos de estudio fueron los ahorcamientos (55.3% vs 60%), seguido por las intoxicaciones (21.5% vs 16.8%) y en tercer lugar las muertes por traumas por mecanismo contundente (10.2% vs 14.7%), dadas por precipitaciones de alturas y por atropellamientos en eventos de tránsito. Finalmente, se determinó que, durante el primer año de pandemia, las localidades de Bogotá que tuvieron las tasas de contagio más altas de forma concomitante para infección por Covid – 19 y número de suicidios consumados fueron Los Mártires, Chapinero y Santa Fe. Conclusiones: En ambos periodos de estudio no se evidenciaron grandes diferencias tanto en el número total de suicidios consumados como en las características sociales, demográficas ni en los factores de riesgo asociados. Por otra parte, las comorbilidades físicas y psiquiátricas, el consumo de sustancias de abuso y la condición socioeconómica, son factores que pudieron precipitar la toma de la fatal decisión. (Texto tomado de la fuente).Introduction: Suicide is the deliberate act of taking one’s own life, being considered a public health problem worldwide. Its prevalence, risk factors and methods used vary according to culture in the different countries. Currently there is no certainty about the behavior suicidal tendency secondary to the burden on mental health triggered by distancing, confinement and restrictions measures implemented during the Covid – 19 pandemic. Although an increase in violence was evident in different populations, there were also repercussions on mental health ranging from suicidal ideation, attempt suicide, to completed suicide. Objectives: Compare the prevalence of suicidal deaths and associated factors during the first year of the Covid – 19 pandemic compared to the previous year, in Bogotá. Materials and methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out, with a retrospective temporality, where the data provide by the National Reference Center on Violence (NRCV) of the Institute National of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science, from the autopsies concluded as suicides carried out in Bogotá in the periods from March 11, 2019 to March 10, 2020 (pre pandemic year) and from March 11, 2020 to March 10, 2021 (first year of the pandemic). Results: During the pre-pandemic year, there were 390 cases of suicide, compared to 333 cases during the first year of the pandemic. In both periods, death occurred mainly in adult’s men between 29 and 59 years old, single, who had lower and/or middle school level of education. Likewise, it was identified that the most frequent causes of death in both study periods were hangings (55.3% vs 60%), followed by poisoning (21.5% vs 16.8%), and in third place the deaths due to blunt trauma (10.2% vs 14.7%). Finally, it was determined that, during first year of the pandemic, the localities that had the highest contagion rates concomitantly for Covid – 19 infection and the number of completed suicides were Martires, Chapinero and Santa Fe. Conclusions: In both study periods, no major differences were evident in the total number of completed suicides, as well as in the social and demographic characteristics, or in the associated risks factors.
