(Texto tomado de la fuente)Due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, remote working is expected to increase in the next years. In 2020, in Colombia, about 3 million people were reported to be working from home. The implementation of remote work implies decisions by companies, so this project aims to identify the decision-making processes of research and biotechnological companies regarding human management functions to implement some type of remote work. It recognizes the elements that motivate the selected companies concerning remote work, as well as the process of evaluation of alternatives, the results of the choices made, and the benefits for institutions and employees. Eight organizations belonging to ACOSEMILLAS, the industrial and research centers association in Colombia, have participated in this study and have been interviewed. This research found synonymy among telework, remote work, and homeworking terms. In addition, the major motivations for the implementation of remote work are competitiveness in the labor market, flexibility, resource optimization, and improvement of productivity. The remote work modalities to be executed by companies in the long term are teleworking, remote work, homeworking, working alternation, smart working, coworking, and flexible work. Additionally, we found that human management functions that have faced the greatest changes in their adaptation to remote work are occupational health and safety, training and development, and employee welfare.
