Acutomotherapy has been proposed as a promising alternative for this problem. Acutomotherapy is a type of acupuncture that uses a needle combined with a flat surgical scalpel at the tip of the needle. It was invented and developed by Professor Zhu Hanzhang in China in 1976. Since then, this type of acupuncture has been widely used to treat musculoskeletal pain, including chronic neck pain. Therefore, it has been decided to carry out a review of the literature in English and Spanish on the acutomotherapy method in soft tissue pathologies that cause cervical pain. The anatomy of the muscles of the cervical region is reviewed, the musculoskeletal pathologies of the cervical region that can be treated with acutome are described, and the points that should be treated are referenced. Regarding side effects, it was found that most are local (pain and bleeding), and can be easily controlled and subside in a short time. The scales used to determine pain, disability and evaluate the level of improvement during and after treatment with acutomo in this pathology are described: the visual analog scale (VAS) and the Cervical Disability Index (NDI) (69). In all clinical trials, the superior effect of acutomotherapy as a single therapy, or combined with another therapy, for the various musculoskeletal pathologies of the cervical region is observed. Furthermore, all studies report that fewer sessions are needed and the long-term effect is greater with acutome.
