This research compared moral agency constructions among maltreated Colombian adolescents (n=30) and non-maltreated adolescents (n=30), as well as among adolescents aged 11 to 13 years (mean age=12.2) and adolescents aged 15 to 17 years (mean age=15.6) in relation to their experiences of interpersonal conflict. Using a semistructured interview, 120 narratives about situations in which they were victims or perpetrators of harm were collected. ANOVAs and MANOVAs were used to assess differences between groups in severity measures, events and interpretations, presence, relevance, and narrative content, as well as moral judgments and justifications, considering the condition, age, gender, and perspective, with perspective as a repeated measure. In general, significant differences were found in moral agency constructions based on the adolescents' conditions. Non-maltreated adolescents and older adolescents showed a higher integration of their own interpretations and those of others in their narratives. Additionally, differences were observed in the relevance and content of narrative elements, reflecting specific vulnerabilities of maltreated adolescents. No differences were found in the application of moral judgments or justifications. The implications of these findings for understanding the development of moral agency during adolescence and in normative and non-normative developmental conditions are discussed.
