(Texto tomado de la fuente)Personality traits and their association with symptoms of anxiety and depression in cancer patients. The functioning of personality determines emotional, cognitive and behavioral aspects in individuals. From this notion, finding the complex interrelationship between some personality traits and symptoms of depression and anxiety has represented a source of significant interest in psychiatry, according to the comorbidity and consequences of these phenomena in terms of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. To such an extent that a continuum between some personality groups and affective symptoms has been proposed, following certain clinical presentations, without defining this fact conclusively. Based on this, multiple studies have been carried out looking for associations between personality traits and symptoms of anxiety and depression, to elucidate the importance of this link and to contribute to the development of clinical practice. Objective: to determine the association between personality traits and symptoms of anxiety and depression in cancer patients at the National Cancer Institute during the years 2021 and 2022. Methodology: analytical observational study, cross-sectional, which included 399 patients of the National Cancer Institute who are in the treatment phase of a neoplastic disease, addressed in the services that treat the most common types of cancer, over 18 years of age who agreed to be part of the study; to whom two types of questionnaires were applied (Salamanca Test and DASS-21), in order to find the possible correlation between personality traits and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Results: these patients had a mean age of 58 years (SD=13.9), most of them were women (69.4%; N=277). The most prevalent personality configuration in this study was anancastic with 229 patients with these traits (57.39%; CI95%: 54.39% to 60.39%), followed by histrionic, in which 157 patients were identified with these traits (39.35% (CI 95: 36.35% to 42.35%)) and, relevantly, schizoid personality traits recognized in 149 patients (37.34%; (CI: 95: 34.34% to 40.33%)). Regarding depressive symptoms, moderate presentation was found first (10.03%, N=40), followed by mild (9.77%, N=39), very severe (6.52%, N=26) and finally severe presentation (5. 26%, N=21); and on anxiety symptoms first the moderate presentation was considered (15.54%, N=62), followed by the very severe presentation (10.28%, N=41), then the mild (9.02%, N=36) and finally the severe (4.51%, N=18). The multivariate analysis grouped three factors, the main one determining the association between personality traits and symptoms of depression and anxiety, with a particular finding of absence of personality traits correlating with absence of symptoms of anxiety and depression.
