Thoughts on the concept of patrimony

Patrimony is one of the main topics of contemporary discussions on culture. In the article "Thoughts on the Concept of Patrimony" questions are asked about the historical transformation of the concept itself. The varying denominations applied to the elements that constitute patrimony are witness to the high complexity of the discourse that addresses the issue. Diverse terms are used when referring to concrete and tangible expressions of various communities. However, the sample of denominations used so far has not actually eased the creation of the limits of the concept. Large groupings have been tradi-tionally organized. In the last years of the past century inventaries where organized around the topic of tangibility as a sensitive quality. Today, the physical condition of the object, its material-ness, is a priority. Contemporary thought on the specific comprehension of patrimony begs the question on the existing relation between the varying ways of naming the groups and the vulnerable potential of elements considered cultural patrimony.
