The characterization of the working population, the working places present during the process and the social and working context of the goldsmiths were achieved. The results conform with the traditional characteristics of the informal sector in Colombia: precarious living conditions, minimum coverage of social security, low income, low technological complexity, taskwork, low training and low degree of school education.Se estudiaron las condiciones de trabajo y de salud ocupacional de 37 orfebres y 14 talleres artesanales de la ciudad de Mompox (Bolívar). Se utilizó un instrumento de valoración que consta de cuatro formularios: identificación de la unidad productiva, identificación del artesano, valoración de las condiciones de salud y valoración de las condiciones de trabajo. Se logró la caracterización de la población trabajadora, los puestos de trabajo presentes en el proceso y el contexto sociolaboral del oficio de la orfebrería.
