description Several studies evaluating stress and satisfaction levels on dentistry students reveal high levels of stress related to personal and adaptability issues, discontent with educative processes and financial issues. This study thus measures satisfaction levels of dentistry students at the Facultad de Odontología of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, intending to identify factors affecting satisfaction levels, taking into account that between 2004 and 2010 the Facultad de Odontología (FOUN) registered14% desertion average out students. This study combined both quantitative and qualitative research. The first phase established positive, negative and neutral aspects perceived by students throughout the carrier. The second phase applied and analyseda survey made to 221 students. Results show that satisfaction levels vary from positive to negative, depending mainly on student’s financial situation, emotional stability, pedagogy and Faculty’s administration processes. It additionally concludes that it is necessary to develop further research on this topic in order to design strategies to improve student satisfaction, guarantee higher levels of continuity and increase their adherence to the dentistry program.

It additionally concludes that it is necessary to develop further research on this topic in order to design strategies to improve student satisfaction, guarantee higher levels of continuity and increase their adherence to the dentistry program.Diferentes estudios destinados a evaluar el nivel de estrés y el grado de satisfacción de los estudiantes de odontología con su carrera, indican que los estudiantes manejan altos niveles de estrés relacionados con situaciones personales, dificultades deadaptación, inconformidad con los procesos educativos y dificultades económicas. En ese mismo sentido, este estudio buscó medir el nivel de satisfacción de los estudiantes de la Facultad de Odontología durante su carrera, pretendiendo identificar factores que puedan incrementarla o disminuirla, teniendo en cuenta que la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (FOUN), entre los años 2004 al 2010 registró un promedio de deserción estudiantil del 14%. Es un estudio descriptivo que combinó métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos; la primera fase cualitativa mediante técnica degrupo focal estableció los aspectos positivos, negativos y neutros percibidos por el estudiante durante su carrera. En la segunda fase se elaboró un cuestionario construido con la información obtenida en la fase anterior y aplicó a 221 estudiantes de todoslos semestres. Los resultados evidencian que el nivel de satisfacción varía de positivo a negativo, siendo los factores más determinantes la situación económica, la seguridad emocional, la enseñanza y los aspectos administrativos. Es necesario  profundizar en investigaciones de este tipo a fin de establecer estrategias o herramientas para mejorar el nivel de satisfacción estudiantil y aumentar su adherencia al programa de la FOUN.application/pdfspaFacultad de Odontología.
