It is considered that the social problem represented by the direct participation of under-age youngsters in the armed conflict is closely related to the conditions of human and social development of this population and their reference groups. Therefore, the knowledge and the intervention on this situation represents a challenge to the Colombian Social Work.El artículo presenta una reflexión sobre la necesidad de comprender la forma en que el conflicto armado afecta los procesos de constitución de la identidad de niñas, niños y adolescentes que han formado parte de los grupos armados en confrontación y se han desvinculado de ellos. Se considera que la problemática social relacionada con la participación directa de menores de edad en el conflicto armado está estrechamente ligada a las condiciones de desarrollo humano y social de esta población y la de sus grupos de referencia.
