Description
Summary:The presence of Podocnemís erythrocephala in the blackwater strems of the departament of Guainía, Colombia, in the Orinoco basin is confirmed. The dimensions of 179 individuals and the basic statistical data according to the sex is presented. The maximum length of 24,5 cm corresponded to a female and the sex ratio was 1:1.4 in favor of females. The color of cephalic design did not correspond with the description of the species. Information on reproduction and extraction obtained from native people and a warning regarding overexploitation of the species in the area, are given.
