From the viewpoint of culture and education this event had defining consecuences on the development of a new idea of nation, such as the clear recognition of freedom of choice as an inalienable right for individuals, including youngsters. During this decade Colombian television was attentive to the problems of youth and develops successful stories about them. This interest is possibly related to the social climate due to the political changes. Additionaly these fictional Colombian stories interpret reality in a more interesting manner that newscasts and documentaries. This article peruses the television programs of the nineties in order to discover tendencies than address two topics: programs for youngsters and themes that deal with reality.La década de los años noventa se inauguró con la promulgación de la constitución política de 1991. Desde el punto de vista cultural y educativo, este acontecimiento tuvo consecuencias determinantes para el desarrollo de una nueva idea de nación, entre las que se encuentra haber reconocido el libre albedrío de los individuos, incluso si son jóvenes, como un derecho inalienable. En la televisión colombiana, coincidencialmente, se desarrolló durante esa década una especial atención a los problemas de los niños y los jóvenes como tema para crear historias exitosas en la televisión. Posiblemente este interés tenga que ver con el ambiente social que se gestó gracias a ese cambio político. Adicionalmente, estas narraciones de ficción siguiendo una curiosa tendencia en la televisión colombiana, interpretan de manera más interesante la realidad que los informativos o los documentales.
