description In order to assess the nutritional status of preschool children at institutions in the Capital District of Bogotá, 237 children aged between 24 and 76 months were studied. An anthropometric assessment was carried out together with measurement of blood parameters, hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration, and prevalence of intestinal parasites. The prevalence of Ascaris and pinworm was 0,5 % while Entamoeba histolytica was found in 3,5 % and Giardia in 14,9 %. Chronic and global malnutrition were found in 45,5 % and 38,8 %, respectively. The nutritional parameters in blood were within the normal ranges. Social and environmental variables did not present any significant changes. While basic hygienic habits were adequate, the level of knowledge on prevention was low. The possible meaning of these results is examined.

2 (1999); 172-178 0124-0064Cortés E., Javier R. and Salamanca, Lilia and Sánchez, Marly and Vanegas, Frank and Sierra, Pedro (1999) Intestinal parasitism and nutritional status in preschool children in institutions at bogotá, dc.
