This text is a written version of the lecture given by the professor Mumford on May 7th of 2007 at the seminar Modern Urbanism: from the CIAM to Colombia, organized by the Master Program in Urbanism of the National University of Colombia.En el presente artículo, Eric Mumford se enfoca en el discurso del CIAM buscando trazar el desarrollo y la promoción de sus influyentes conceptos alrededor del tema de la “Ciudad Funcional”. A través de un completo análisis de los documentos oficiales del Congreso, así como de los pronunciamientos de sus miembros, el autor revela los cambios que se produjeron en los CIAM desde su origen, a finales de la década de 1920, hasta su disolución en 1959.
