(Texto tomado de la fuente)Background: Swallowing, composed of different phases, is a complex process that involves the coordination between several threads and involves various anatomical structures that range from the cerebral cortex to the periphery. The compromise of any of these threads can lead to the appearance of a swallowing disorder or dysphagia. In patients with Stroke an incidence of dysphagia of 78% is reported in its acute phase, with which, early evaluation and prompt implementation of feeding strategies according to the difficulties of the subject reduce the risk of complications in health condition related to aspiration pneumonia. This evaluation can be of an observational clinical type by means of swallowing screening scales, such as the GUSS test, or it can be of an objective instrumental type. Objective: to compare patients with a history of Stroke with healthy patients using the GUSS Test for swallowing screening adapted to the Colombian population and swallowing accelerometry as a non-invasive objective physiological measure. Method: This analytical observational study included 19 people with stroke and 15 healthy people as a control group matched for age and sex. Swallowing evaluation was performed simultaneously with the GUSS test for swallowing screening and swallowing accelerometry as a physiological measure to record laryngeal mobility. Results: the results did not find a significant difference in the magnitude of laryngeal acceleration of patients with Stroke compared to the control group, however, there is a difference in the swallowing response time to reach that maximum range of laryngeal acceleration, which determined that the variation is found in the time of the reflex swallowing response, rather than in the acceleration of the larynx during swallowing. Conclusion: A difference is identified in the physiological measurements between patients with Stroke and healthy patients in relation to swallowing performance according to consistency, there is no difference in the magnitude of laryngeal acceleration in both groups, and there is an inversely proportional relationship between the scale score NIHSS and the GUSS test.
