(Texto tomado de la fuente)This research aimed to evaluate the potential of two molecular markers, one mitochondrial (COI-3 ́) and the other nuclear (ITS2), as well as the wing geometry, to discriminate ten species of the genus Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera: Fanniidae) reported in Colombia. First, an exhaustive literature review of the genus in the Neotropical region was performed to know the current state of the art. The results allowed for establishing the state of the art of the genus and updating the number of species for the neotropical region. Secondly, a molecular analysis accurately confirmed six species previously defined by morphology, while for the other species, inconsistent results were found between morphology and molecular data; additionally, two mitochondrial lineages were detected for Fannia dorsomaculata suggesting hidden diversity. Finally, the landmark-based geometric morphometric analysis of the wings showed a strong sexual dimorphism in the wing shape, allowing a high-precision sex assignment based solely on this anatomical structure. Likewise, the differences in the average wing shape at the interspecific level in both males and females (morphospecies) allowed the correct assignment to their group (species or morphospecies); however, these differences were hidden by differences at the sex level. This work provides the baseline for molecular identification and the first data on wing morphometric characterization in this genus, which will contribute to the potential utility of the species in various areas of knowledge.CODEI- Comite para el Desarrollo de la Investigación (Tecnológico de Antioquia - Institución Universitaria)MaestríaMagister en Ciencias EntomologíaBioinformaticaÁrea Curricular en Ciencias Naturales126 páginasapplication/pdfspaUniversidad Nacional de Colombia, Sede MedellínMedellín - Ciencias - Maestría en Ciencias - EntomologíaFacultad de CienciasMedellín, ColombiaUniversidad Nacional de Colombia - Sede Medellín590 - Animales::595 - ArtrópodosGenética de insectosInsects - geneticsDipterosDipteraListado taxonómicoMoscasADN mitocondrialSegundo espaciador transcrito internoEntomología médico-legalPuntos de referenciaConformación alarCalyptrataeTaxonomic listFliesMitochondrial DNASecond internal transcribed spacerMedico-legal entomologyLandmarksWing shapeAnálisis de marcadores moleculares y morfometría geométrica alar para la identificación de especies del género Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera: Fanniidae) de ColombiaAnalysis of molecular markers and wing geometric morphometry for the identification of species of the genus Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera: Fanniidae) from ColombiaTrabajo de grado - Maestríainfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersionTexthttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/TMRedColLaReferenciaAballay, F.
