In the second case health acts as a means which could in some ways influence development. On the other hand, the extent of the approaches of human capital and sustainable development are examined, in particular the latter because of the challenge it poses in respect to environmental preservation and its relationship to welfare.Se presentan los conceptos de desarrollo y de salud que son frecuentemente utilizados en el análisis de las relaciones que existen entre ambos. Las determinaciones positivas y negativas son consideradas desde el lado del desarrollo y desde la salud. En el primer caso, la salud se convierte en un objetivo y tiene valor por sí misma. En el segundo caso la salud opera como un medio que podría incidir de alguna manera en el desarrollo.
