Description
Summary:In 1986 Antonio Roda returned to abstract painting after a long stretch of time as an engraver, a time in which he achieved important figurative works. This return to  painting reveals a romantic attitude that has always been present in his work: an "emotional authenticity" related to the artist's honesty and sincerity. This quality, according to the romantics, is what validates a work of art and transforms it into the vital and personal experience of the artist. This purpose is explicit in Roda's work, an artist who, during his lifetime "intended to leave his fingerprint on that page that reads, Antonio Roda". Notwithstanding the great differences that exist between his engravings and his pictoric work it is possible to observe certain traits that are present in both forms of language and that permit the observation of this emotional authenticity that is translated into painting, with the spontaneous and emotional strok.es that are characteristic of his trade. The different stages of his work are analized under this perspective, many times using the artist 's own words.
