Summary:The article emphasizes the importance of cultural or symbolic capital together with social and economic capital, and its potential for the achievement of territorial development. Particular importance is given to the assignment of value to the distinct forms of objectified capital which different ethnic groups possess, as evidenced by the case of San Juan Comalapa, particularly with respect to the naif paintings elaborated there since over a century ago.
