We founded 172 cyst 87 (50.6% in females and 85 (49.4%) in males. There were 9 types of cyst recognized by the WHO: the most frequently diagnosed were: radicular (periapical) cyst (104 cases), residual cyst (24 cases), and dentigerous cyst (19 cases) with 85.4% of the all types of cyst. Mandibular cysts were more frequents. When we know the origin of the cyst, the clinical and histological behaviour of these types of diseases are very important in their medical and surgical management.Los quistes representan una de las principales causas de destrucción de los maxilares. La información relativa a estas entidades en la población cubana es escasa, por esto el propósito de la presente investigación es el presentar la frecuencia de los distintos tipos de quistes registrados en el servicio de cirugía máxilofacial en la ciudad de Artemisa, asícomo comparar los hallazgos con lo reportado en otros estudios y analizar su posible asociación con el sexo de los afectados y el tipo de diagnóstico histopalógico. Se registraron 172 quistes, de los cuales 87 (50.6%) se presentaron en mujeres, 85 (49.4%)en hombres. Se identificaron 9 variedades de quistes de las entidades reconocidas por la OMS. Los quistes más frecuentes fueron: quiste radiculares periapicales (104 casos), el quiste residual (24 casos) y quiste dentígero (19 casos). En conjunto, estas tres entidades representaron el 85.4% del total. La localización mas frecuente fue la mandíbula. El conocer el origen, los aspectos clínico–patológicos y la conducta biológica de estaslesiones son aspectos fundamentales para su detección oportuna y manejo adecuado.application/pdfspaFacultad de Odontología.
