Reflexiones en torno al pensamiento ambiental y a la crisis del racionalismo científico / Reflections on Environmental Thought and the Crisis of Scientific Rationalism

El presente artículo reflexiona en torno al surgimiento de las ciencias ambientales y las ubica como un nuevo campo de estudio y teorización que nace en el ocaso de la sociedad moderna en concomitancia con la necesidad de articular perspectivas, distintas al esquematismo y al cuantitativismo, más asociadas al pluralismo. La metáfora de Weber del estuche que ha quedado vacío o la del superhéroe que no aparece cuando más se le necesita, plantea la pregunta sobre las limitaciones que tiene el racionalismo científico para dar cuenta de la actual crisis ecológica. Sin descartar el legado moderno, el ensayo propone la dialéctica entre escisión y recomposición de la naturaleza como principio metodológico para abordar lo ambiental, la primera asociada al positivismo y la segunda a la fenomenología. También analiza los alcances y límites de la definición de medio ambiente construida por Augusto Ángel, la cual explica las relaciones complejas entre cultura y ecosistemas. / Abstract. The article carries out a reflection on the environmental sciences as a new field of study and theorization that arises during the decline of modern society, in conjunction with the need to articulate perspectives more in keeping with pluralism than with schematism and quantitativism. Weber’s metaphors of the empty box or of the superhero that never appears when he is most needed raise questions regarding the capacity of scientific rationalism to account for the current ecological crisis. Without discarding the modern legacy, the essay suggests the dialectic between the division and the recomposition of nature as a methodological principle to address environmental issues. The former is associated with positivism and the latter, with phenomenology. It also analyzes the scope and limitations of Augusto Ángel’s definition of environment, which explains the complex relations between culture and ecosystems
