Description
Summary:A graduate module on research projects offered by the ACAC entitled Basic Sciences aims to locate and emphasize the importance of these sciences in any research project. The module aims to raise awareness of the role played by basic science in daily life and its expected rapid development in the XXI century in what we call Nanoscience. The fundamental issue is the entropy as an inexorable law of nature and on which have been made multiple attempts trying to overcome it. Maxwell invented a famous demon and Feynman proposed his well known rachet that could be interpreted as a demon, but it is not. The concept of disorder as an explanation of the increase of entropy can be used to understand how biological machines and propose nanoengines artificial or nanorobots. This module ends with an evaluation with the purpose of guiding and adapting the module to a wider audience and extend it to high school classes.
