La familia consta de cinco géneros y 37 especies y presenta una distribución casi cosmopolita. En Colombia se presentan los cinco géneros (Landoltia, Lemna, Spirodela, Wolffia, Wolffiella) y 15 especies. Las plantas se encuentran con mayor frecuencia en el altiplano de Cundinamarca, en el valle del río Magdalena y en las regiones situadas hacia el norte del país. Se presentan claves de identificación, descripciones, comentarios taxonómicos y mapas de distribución para todas las especies. The family comprises five genera and 37 species of near-cosmopolitan distribution. All five genera (Landoltia, Lemna, Spirodela, Wolffia, Wolffiella) and 15 species are known to occur in Colombia.
