No obstante, el Sotomayor fue uno de los cines más exclusivos de la ciudad. Su capacidad llegaba a 400 espectadores, incluyendo los de su pequeño palco. Durante unos 30 años el teatro tuvo su edad de oro, pues allí varias generaciones de bumangueses vieron las mejores películas de todos los géneros, en matinal, matiné, vespertina y noche.
