Objective. Identify and describe the reported findings on the risk factors for the development of prenatal depression and anxiety, the consequences for mothers and their offspring, the theoretical explanations that address their genesis, maintenance, and health care strategies. Methodology. A literature review was carried out in the databases and information sources: Pub Med, EBSCO Host, Scielo, Redalyc and Google Scholar, of articles 200https: //doi.org/10.29375/01237047.28201 2Mónica Mojica-Perilla, Psi. , Masters Ph.D. , Sol Redondo-Rodríguez, Psi. MSa., 3Sonia Esperanza Osma-Zambrano, MD., Esp., MSc. Published between 1995 and 2015, using the terms "depression during pregnancy", "prenatal anxiety", "perinatal mental health", and "prenatal anxiety" among others, articles were selected that reported the risks and impacts on the health of the mother and her offspring, theoretical explanations on genesis and maintenance of depression and anxiety. Results. The main risk factor identified is a previous history of anxiety and / or depression; Among the negative effects on the baby's health are fetal growth restriction, low birth weight, premature delivery and future emotional and behavioral problems of the child. Action strategies include the design of clinical care guidelines and protocols that make it possible to identify women at risk and those who already have mild or severe symptoms. Conclusions. The previous results highlight the need to implement action strategies that allow the early identification of populations at risk.application/pdfText/htmlspaUniversidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga UNABFacultad Ciencias de la SaludPregrado Psicologíahttps://revistas.unab.edu.co/index.php/medunab/article/view/2820Organización Panamericana de la Salud.
