El ruido que hace la macana del guardia contra los barrotes me despierta de un descanso que no he tenido, de hecho, ya llevo tres noches sin dormir. ¿Cómo hacerlo, después de la visita del más malo? Respondo a los golpes del guardia: qué descaro, aquí no dejan ni dormir en paz. Todo ello, en el tono amable que da una convivencia de siete meses, tiempo que ha transcurrido de mi condena a veinte años, por homicidio agravado. A estas alturas, se podría decir que ya le he tomado el ritmo a la rutina del penal; desde luego, eso es muy diferente a decir que me he acostumbrado a estar privado de la libertad, ¿quién lo puede hacer? Cuando eso suceda estaré plenamente loco, ofcialmente loco, loco en todos mis cabales. No, lo que quiero señalar es que el levantarme a las cinco de la mañana, con el sueño pegado a los ojos, ya no es problema, como tampoco lo es la masa insalubre que hacen pasar aquí por comida o las caminatas a pleno rayo del sol en el patio. Me levanto del catre, miro hacia donde sale el sol y le lanzo al astro rey la plegaria de siempre: “ordena, oh Señor, la miserable condición de mis dominios. Haz que el día trascurra lejos de las sombras amargas que ahora me agobian”. |
