description	Durante las últimas décadas se han multiplicado las críticas a la violencia y las propuestas alternativas para controlarla o erradicarla de manera definitiva. Desde diferentes perspectivas y con una variada gama de argumentos, la violencia ha sido rechazada como un fenómeno esencialmente inmoral que promueve valores militaristas y prácticas autoritarias, o por sus elevados costos en términos materiales y de vidas humanas, sus consecuencias negativas para el medio ambiente y su ineficacia como instrumento para la consecución de objetivos sociales y políticos. Las alternativas propuestas pueden clasificarse en tres grandes categorías, según que enfatizen el control de los instrumentos de guerra (Pacifismo Instrumental), el diseño de instituciones para la regulación de las relaciones entre colectividades tanto en el orden como en el interno (Pacifismo Institucional) o la transformación de valores con el fin de posibilitar la coexistencia y la tramitación pacífica de los conflictos (Pacifismo Finalista)

From different perspectives and with a wide range of arguments, violence has been rejected as an essentially immoral phenomenon that promotes militaristic values and authoritarian practices, or because of its high costs in material terms and human lives, its negative consequences for the environment and its ineffectiveness as an instrument for achieving social and political objectives.
