La fiebre del chikungnya es una enfermedad que afecta a muchos países a nivel mundial. Su agente etiológico es el alfavirus Virus del chikungnuya, perteneciente a la familia Togaviridae, conformado por un ARN monocatenario, del cual se han aislado tres genotipos diferentes según el análisis filogenético: el asiático, el africano este-central-sur (ECSA) y el africano occidental. La principal vía de transmisión es la vectorial a través de los mosquitos del género Aedes. En cuanto a la patogenia, se ha asociado una mayor carga viral y niveles elevados de IL6 durante la fase aguda con el desarrollo de artralgia persistente como secuela. Finalmente, el diagnóstico se hace con base en la clínica y es confirmado mediante pruebas moleculares como ELISA, RTPCR o cultivo viral |

Its etiological agent is the alphavirus Chikungnuya virus, belonging to the Togaviridae family, made up of a single-stranded RNA, from which three different genotypes have been isolated according to phylogenetic analysis: Asian, East-Central-South African (ECSA) and West African. The main route of transmission is the vector through mosquitoes of the genus Aedes.
