La leucemia linfoblástica aguda (LLA) es una neoplasia hematológica maligna caracterizada por la proliferación descontrolada de linfoblastos (1). Su pronóstico está influenciado por la edad y las características genéticas (2). La LLA en adolescentes y adultos jóvenes (AYA; por sus siglas en inglés) es un concepto relativamente nuevo; según el National Cancer Institute se define como los pacientes diagnosticados entre los 15 a 39 años, en quienes la fisiopatología es única y por tanto, requieren atención clínica específica (3). Las opciones terapéuticas para AYA se han fragmentado entre protocolos para adultos y pediátricos, sin embargo, la farmacocinética y farmacodinámica cambia con la edad del huésped y se traduce en toxicidad y mayor resistencia (4). Estos resultados se pueden atribuir en gran medida a la mayor incidencia de mutaciones citogenéticas de alto riesgo en adultos, relacionándose a su vez con tasas más bajas de sobrevida en este grupo de pacientes (5). En Colombia, los datos sobre los diferentes esquemas de tratamiento, así como sobre las características clínico-demográficas de la LLA en el subgrupo AYA, son limitados. La mayoría de la información actual proviene principalmente de grupos europeos y norteamericanos. |
